About

I am Krisztián Rapcsány, a full stack developer.

I started in game development. In 2015 I became lead programmer at a game studio, where we worked on computer and mobile games and on AR/VR games. That is where I led a development team for the first time.

Then I built custom applications and websites as a sole trader, and from 2018 I became a web developer at a car-accessories web shop. From 2023 I was the CTO of a startup: I built a team, designed a high-load SaaS, and I was there when the servers were set up.

Since then I have been a freelancer. PHP and Laravel are my main ground, but I build the backend, the web interface and the mobile app myself, and I do not need anyone else for operations either. I like working on live systems: I rewrite old ones, audit them and speed them up.

What I like most is creating: building new products, and systems that work with no room for error, even at millions of records per second. I explain to my clients, through examples, how their system works and why each part matters. If needed, I also explain why what they want will not work, and how they can reach their goal with it.

If the job is bigger, we can handle it as a team.

How I work
01

I understand first

Before I build, I make clear what the goal is, and what happens if something breaks.

02

I measure, I do not guess

My check-in app times every scan for every guest. I do not believe it is fast, I can see it in the numbers.

03

I do not stop a running system

I rewrite the old system feature by feature, with the same behaviour, so everyone can keep working in the meantime.

04

I defend against failure

Dry runs, switches, retries, logging. I build in first what saves you when something fails.

05

I start small

The essentials come first, then I extend. I added the community features the same way, behind a switch, gradually.

06

I write down what matters

I document the code, hand it over properly, and explain things so that not only a developer understands.

Who I help the most

Companies running live systems

Where downtime costs money, and a change has to go out while everything keeps running.

Early-stage businesses

They do not need a coder, they need someone who also helps with technology decisions and building a team. I did that as a CTO.

Teams that inherited code

I go through the code, redesign what has to be redesigned, and fix the most important bugs.
